Rehan's Mooncake-Tea pairing recommendations
Awfully Chocolate’s Dark Chocolate Brownie Mooncake and Clipper Tea’s Lychee Black Tea
The Dark Chocolate Brownie Mooncake is dense and has a bittersweet note so we want a tea that is strong enough to cut through that, and still be able to balance that slight bitterness with some sweetness. Hence, the Lychee Black Tea is a perfect match. There are 3 other types of mooncakes in this Awfully Chocolate box of Classic Baked Mooncakes, all of which go well with tea, but for me the Lychee Black Tea suits the Brownie Mooncake the best.
Tai Chong Kok’s Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Two Yolks and Clipper Tea’s Jasmine Pearls
The Baked Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with yolks is a very traditional mooncake. So we have paired it with our Jasmine Pearls, which is a very traditional tea. The floral note of the lotus paste is paralleled perfectly by the Jasmine flower. This combination is something we locals are very familiar with; a comforting taste that is very popular with Singaporeans.
Chang Ho Sek’s Snowskin MSW Durian Mooncake and Clipper Tea’s Orchid Tea
The Mao Shan Wang Mooncake was creamy, sweet, yet savoury. To complement its strong and smooth flavour while ensuring that the tea speaks for itself, we felt that Orchid Tea was the best fit. It has a distinctive aroma and clean subtle floral palate, complements the strength of the durian flavor, which enhances the enjoyment of the durian mooncake.
